Lourdes Softball Continues Florida Trip Friday

Lourdes loaded the bases in the seventh inning of both games on Friday and had the winning run at the plate but was unable to deliver the key hit as the Gray Wolves dropped an 8-5 decision to Dakota Wesleyan and a 3-0 contest to Trinity Christian at USSSA Space Coast in Melbourne, Fla.

Dakota Wesleyan (10-11) struck first in the opening inning only to see the Gray Wolves even the game in the bottom of the frame.  Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S) stole home on the front end of a double steal to tie the game at one.

The Tigers took control with another run in the second along with three in both the third and fifth innings to build an 8-1 lead before Lourdes battled back.  Maddie Darrah (Holland, Ohio/Springfield H.S.) had a two-run double in the sixth to make it an 8-3 game.

With two outs in the seventh, Emily Robinson (Riverview, Mich./Riverview H.S.) drew a bases loaded walk to plate a run and Jaylen Jackson (Newark, Ohio/Newark H.S.) followed with a single to cut the deficit to three.  The Gray Wolves stranded those runners though as the game ended.

Jackson had two hits in the opener while Taylor Leggins (Parma, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) tossed three innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit, to give the Gray Wolves a chance at the comeback bid.

Trinity Christian (7-11) also took the lead with a run in the opening frame but the game stayed a 1-0 contest until the seventh when the Trolls added a pair of insurance runs.

Lourdes tried to even the game up in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs but again could not produce a run.

Leggins went the distance in the circle, scattering seven hits while allowing the three runs.  The Gray Wolves had five hits in game two.

Lourdes (6-12) will close out its spring trip on Saturday with a rematch against Dakota Wesleyan at 10 a.m. followed by a contest against New College of Florida at 2:30 p.m.
