Caden Louthan (Dripping Springs, Texas/Dripping Springs H.S.) scored 1:14 into overtime on Saturday afternoon as Lourdes posted an 11-10 Senior Day victory over Taylor at Ottawa Hills High School.
Louthan's tally was his third of the game, giving the Gray Wolves their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win of the season. The goal came with in a man-up situation after Taylor was called for a three-minute penalty for an illegal stick. The Gray Wolve capitalized with their third man-up goal of the day.
The game was tight throughout, with the Gray Wolves holding a 3-2 lead after the opening quarter before the two schools were tied at six at halftime.
With Lourdes trailing 7-6 late in the first half,
Hayden Barber (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) started a run of four straight Lourdes goals, tying the game with 2:57 to play in the third.
Darin Briscoe (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Kingston College) gave the Gray Wolves the lead 30 seconds later before Louthan ended the quarter with another tally giving Lourdes a 9-7 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
Kalani Hale (Charleston, W. Va./Capital H.S.) scored his team-leading 24
th goal of the season early in the third to push the Lourdes lead to three, 10-7. The Gray Wolves maintained that lead until Taylor (4-9, 1-5 WHAC) scored three times in less than four minutes, tying the game with 2:23 to play in regulation to force the extra session.
Louthan and Barber each tallied three goals while Hale added two more on the day for the Gray Wolves. Barber also had four assists, including a helper on the game-winner, to finish the day with seven points.
Dique Reid (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East H.S.) picked up seven ground balls to lead Lourdes while Briscoe and
Christian Lamb (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) each caused three turnovers.
Xander Slate (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's H.S.) made 13 saves in the cage for the Gray Wolves.
Lourdes (4-6, 1-5) will close out the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Siena Heights. The opening faceoff is set for noon at Ottawa Hills High School.
