Lourdes Sweeps Michigan-Dearborn to Close Out Home Slate

Lourdes wrapped up the home portion of the 2024 season on Thursday, sweeping Michigan-Dearborn in a doubleheader by scores of 8-3 and 8-1 at Gray Wolf Field.

The Gray Wolves scored in each of the first four innings of game one.  Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) doubled home the game's first run in the opening inning while Jessyca Smith (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) had an RBI single in the second.

A four-run third broke the game open for Lourdes as Lindsay McGann (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson H.S.) led off the inning with her fourth home run of the season.  Smith added two more RBI in the third with a bases loaded single, with another run crossing the plate due to an error to push the lead to 6-0.

Palma added a sacrifice fly in the fourth before Olivia Hickman (Trenton, Mich./Trenton H.S.) gave Lourdes an eight-run advantage with a run-scoring double.

Michigan-Dearborn extended the game with two runs in the fifth before adding a late tally in the seventh.

Kirstin Smith (Marysville, Mich./Marysville H.S.) went the distance for the win, striking out six while yielding just seven hits.

Offensively, Jessyca Smith had three hits while McGann and Hickman had two each as part of the Gray Wolves' 13-hit attack.

Lourdes raced out to an early lead in game two as well with a fielder's choice and a bases loaded walk scoring a pair of runs in the first.  Two Michigan-Dearborn (7-27, 5-13 WHAC) errors led to two more runs in the second while Hickman added a sacrifice fly and Jaylen Jackson (Newark, Ohio/Newark H.S.) delivered her second RBI of the game with a double to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Wolverines scored their lone run in the top of the third before a McGann hit pushed the lead back to six in the bottom of the frame. Lourdes added a final run in the sixth on Emily Wallace's single for her second RBI of the game.

Jackson and Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.), who scored three times in game two, each had two hits as Lourdes managed seven in the nightcap.

Berlynn Keller (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) went the distance in the circle, allowing just one unearned run and five hits while striking out four for the win.

Lourdes (13-25, 7-11) heads to Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader against Concordia (Mich.).  The first pitch in game one is set for 1 p.m. at Cardinal Field.
