Lourdes Drops a Pair Saturday at Concordia

Lourdes began its final road trip of the season on Saturday, falling 5-2 and 8-6 to Concordia (Mich.) at Cardinal Field in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Gray Wolves started fast in the opening inning as Brooke Albert (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights H.S.) led off the game with a home run.

The Cardinals responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame before adding three unearned runs in the fifth to build a 5-1 lead.

Lourdes did not have another hit after the game's first batter until a leadoff single by Annalisse Palma (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview H.S.) in the seventh.  After an error in the inning, the Gray Wolves scored an unearned as Lauren Schuller's (Antwerp, Ohio/Antwerp H.S.) groundout plated pinch-runner Robyn Ryan (Norton, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban H.S.).

The Gray Wolves struck first in game two as well, plating four runs in the top of the third.  A groundout by Berlynn Keller (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) put Lourdes in front before Lindsey McGann (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson H.S.) hit a three-run homer.

Concordia (29-11, 11-5 WHAC) responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third before taking the lead with three more in the fourth.  Two insurance runs crossed the plate in the sixth before Lourdes tried to make a seventh inning rally.

Albert hit her second home run of the day, a two-run shot with Jessyca Smith (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood H.S.) aboard to pull Lourdes within two, but the Gray Wolves would get no closer.

McGann had two of the Gray Wolves' four hits in game two.

Lourdes (13-27, 7-13) will wrap up the regular season on Sunday afternoon, heading to Livonia, Mich. to battle 16th-ranked Madonna.  The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at University Field.
