LIVONIA, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- A late comeback effort by the Lourdes University Gray Wolves fell just short on Wednesday night, as Madonna University held off in the closing seconds to hand Lourdes an 82-80 defeat at ACCU Arena.
Despite trailing by as many as 14 points in the first half, Lourdes mounted a second-half surge, outscoring the Crusaders 47-37 after the break. The Gray Wolves shot 50% from the field and knocked down six three-pointers in the second half to climb back into contention.
Kendall Perkins led Lourdes with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while Derrell Jones provided a spark off the bench, scoring a team-high 17 points while grabbing six rebounds. Shaunn Monroe tallied 13 points and dished out seven assists, and Devyn Jones added 13 points while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.
The Gray Wolves trailed 45-33 at halftime but opened the second half with a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to single digits. A three-pointer by Monroe with 10 seconds remaining brought Lourdes within one, but Madonna responded with a clutch basket in the final moments to seal the win.
Adonus Abrams contributed 11 points off the bench, while Lourdes' reserves outscored Madonna's 36-17. The Gray Wolves were a perfect 13-for-13 at the free-throw line and turned 17 Madonna turnovers into 23 points.

With the loss, Lourdes falls to 16-6 overall and 10-4 in WHAC play. The Gray Wolves will look to bounce back when they return home on Saturday to host Defiance College at 3 p.m.
