Pedroza Reaches 1,000 Career Points as Women's Basketball Defeats Cleary 76-62

Emma Pedroza leads with 24 points to enter the 1,000 career points club.

LANSING, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) -- Lourdes University women's basketball senior Emma Pedroza delivered a milestone performance Wednesday evening, scoring 24 points to surpass the 1,000-career-point mark, leading Lourdes to a 76-62 conference victory over Cleary University at Gannon Gymnasium in Lansing, Mich. The Gray Wolves improved to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in WHAC play, while Cleary dropped to 5-10 and 4-4 in the conference.

Needing just 17 points to reach the historic mark, Pedroza's strong start set the tone. By halftime, she had already tallied 13 points, leaving her just four points shy. Early in the third quarter, Pedroza knocked down a mid-range jumper to put her within one, before a jumper moments into the fourth quarter would mark the senior the latest Gray Wolf to reach the 1,000-point club.

Grace Ryan and Macie Stringfellow added key contributions, each posting double-doubles. Ryan finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Stringfellow notched 10 points and 10 boards. Tamyah Worthy chipped in 10 points, as Lourdes controlled the game on the boards with a dominant 48-33 rebounding edge.

Cleary hung tough in the first half, trailing just 34-27 at the break. However, Lourdes pulled away in the third, outscoring the Cougars 19-12 and building a double-digit lead they would not relinquish. Cleary's fourth-quarter push wasn't enough to overcome Lourdes' balanced attack.

The victory marked another strong showing for the Gray Wolves, who are now 6-3 in conference action placing them fifth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference standings.
