Lourdes Tops Cornerstone on Homecoming Afternoon

Thornton, Lynam, and Boskovich each find the net in 3-1 victory

SYLVANIA, Ohio – Three different goal scorers powered Lourdes University women's soccer to a 3-1 Homecoming win over Cornerstone University on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.

Jaylyn Thornton opened the scoring in the 37th minute, finishing a feed from Maisy Gerlach to give the Gray Wolves a 1-0 halftime lead. Lourdes extended its advantage less than three minutes into the second half when Taylir Lynam scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Zoey Trout, making it 2-0.

Freshman Keira Boskovich added her first collegiate goal in the 81st minute, finishing a setup from Thornton to stretch the lead to 3-0. Cornerstone broke through in the 83rd minute as Kaitlynn Sal scored off a corner from Gracie Gortmaker, but it wasn't enough to slow the Gray Wolves' momentum.

Lourdes outshot Cornerstone 24-9 overall and 13-5 in shots on goal. Samarah Arendsen made two saves in net for the Gray Wolves, while Corinne McGlassion finished with 10 saves for the Golden Eagles.

With the win, Lourdes improved to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in WHAC play, remaining near the top of the conference standings. Cornerstone fell to 2-9-2 (1-5-1 WHAC).

The Gray Wolves return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 15, traveling to Spring Arbor for a non-conference matchup.
