SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Lourdes University men's soccer advanced to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference semifinals Saturday night with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Lawrence Tech at Blue Devils Stadium.
The Gray Wolves built an early lead behind a pair of first-half goals.
Nawfal Hassani (Toledo, Ohio) opened the scoring in the 21st minute with an unassisted strike before
Kalis Weber (Sylvania, Ohio) put Lourdes ahead 2-1 in the 36th minute, finishing a pass from
Murilo Lima (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).
After Lawrence Tech tied the match 2-2 in the 69th minute on a goal from Grayson Binford, the Gray Wolves found the winner late.
Martin Coronel (Asunción, Paraguay) scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute, blasting home an unassisted finish to send Lourdes through to the next round.
Lourdes outshot the Blue Devils 16-8, including a 10-6 edge in shots on goal, while holding an 8-4 margin in saves. Goalkeeper
Benjamin Godard (Lausanne, Switzerland) made one stop to earn the victory. Defenders
Zack Meunier-Gorman (Sylvania, Ohio) and
Joseph Slaske (Toledo, Ohio) each recorded key defensive saves to preserve the win.
With the win, Lourdes improved to 12-7 overall, while Lawrence Tech ended its season at 8-9-2. The Gray Wolves will advance to face the highest remaining seed in the WHAC Semifinals next week.
