SYLVANIA, Ohio — Behind a dominant scoring performance from sophomore guard
Derek Fairley, Lourdes University earned an 83–78 victory over Rochester Christian University on Tuesday night inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. The Gray Wolves improved to 7–1 overall with the win.
Fairley was nearly unstoppable, scoring 35 points on 11-of-21 shooting while adding four assists, four rebounds, and two steals in a full 40-minute effort. He went 10-of-13 from the free-throw line and buried three triples, including a deep buzzer-beater to close the first half and send Lourdes into the break with a 44–40 lead.
Freshman forward
Jayden Jones delivered a strong night off the bench with 13 points and eight rebounds, shooting 6-of-12 from the floor. Senior center
Charlie Wood added 10 points, including a pair of key buckets early in the second half.
Rochester Christian (6–2) made its presence felt on the glass, outrebounding Lourdes 60–38 and converting those extra possessions into 24 second-chance points. Tymias Williams led the Warriors with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists, while James Fisher added 17 points and 10 boards.
Despite the rebounding gap, Lourdes made the most of its defensive pressure, forcing 18 turnovers and turning them into 21 points. The Gray Wolves also outscored RCU 40–36 in the paint.
In the second half, Lourdes stretched its lead to 13 behind a 7-0 run sparked by Fairley and Jones. Rochester Christian pulled within three in the final minute, but clutch free throws from Fairley and
Adonus Abrams sealed the win.
As a team, Lourdes shot 45.6% from the field and held RCU to just 9.1% from three (2-for-22).
Lourdes returns to WHAC play on Wednesday, December 3, traveling to Defiance College for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
