SYLVANIA, Ohio — Lourdes University men's basketball used efficiency on offense and timely stops down the stretch to defeat Aquinas College 77–69 on Saturday afternoon inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. The Gray Wolves improved to 9–1 overall and 5–1 in WHAC play with the win.
Lourdes built an early cushion by holding Aquinas to 21.4% shooting in the first half, taking a 35–24 lead into the break. While the Saints heated up after halftime, the Gray Wolves answered each push with key baskets and controlled the final minutes at the free-throw line.
Sophomore guard
Derek Fairley (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran West) led Lourdes with 20 points, adding six assists, a steal, and a block while playing all 40 minutes. He scored 15 in the second half, repeatedly getting to the rim and knocking down clutch free throws late.
Senior center
Charlie Wood (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton) posted a strong all-around performance with 18 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks, anchoring the Gray Wolves on both ends of the floor.
Adonus Abrams (Columbus, Ohio/Harvest Prep) chipped in 17 points, including three three-pointers, while
Jayden Jones added eight points, highlighted by a late corner three that pushed the lead back to eight.
Lourdes shot 48.2% from the field and finished with a 39–38 rebounding edge, while forcing 10 Aquinas turnovers. The Gray Wolves also held a 10–4 advantage in fast-break points.
Jordan Bledsoe led Aquinas (3–7, 1–5 WHAC) with 22 points, and Devon Boyd added 20, but Lourdes limited the Saints' supporting cast and closed the game with defensive rebounds and free throws in the final minute.
Lourdes will look to build on the win when it returns to action next week, continuing conference play as the Gray Wolves push through the heart of the WHAC schedule.
