MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University men's volleyball team secured its first conference win of the season with a dominant 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-17, 25-15) over Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday evening in Mount Vernon, Ohio. With the win, the Gray Wolves improve to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC).
Lourdes controlled the match from the start, recording a strong .565 hitting percentage in the first set. Vinicius Lopez and Jaber Badarne led the offensive charge, each finishing with 12 kills. Lopez also added two service aces, while Badarne contributed one. As a team, Lourdes hit .400 for the match, vastly outpacing the Cougars, who struggled with a .070 hitting percentage.
In the opening set, Lourdes quickly built a comfortable lead and won 25-16. The second set saw Mount Vernon Nazarene fight back briefly, but Lourdes maintained control, ultimately winning 25-17. The Gray Wolves capped off the sweep with a 25-15 win in the third set, dominating both offensively and defensively.
Joey Bianco dished out 31 assists to lead the offense, while Brayden Moyars contributed 10 digs and a solid all-around performance. Ben Palma played a key role at the net, finishing with four blocks, and Mitch Hoffman added three more.
With the win, Lourdes is now tied for fourth place in the WHAC standings and will look to continue their momentum in conference play.
