Men's Basketball Closes Season in NAIA Opening Round Against Host Huntington

No. 14 Gray Wolves fell to the No. 3 Foresters, 77-51

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University men's basketball team saw its season come to an end in the opening round of the 2025 NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship, falling 77-51 to No. 3 seed and host Huntington University on Friday evening inside Platt Arena.

The Gray Wolves (21-9) struggled offensively against a strong defensive effort from the Foresters (25-7), shooting just 31.5% from the field and 10.0% from three-point range. Huntington controlled the game from the start, building a 39-22 halftime lead and never allowing Lourdes to cut the deficit to single digits in the second half.

WHAC Player of the Year Shaunn Monroe led Lourdes with 15 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while Derek Fairley added 12 points and six boards off the bench. Derrell Jones contributed eight points and four rebounds, but the Gray Wolves were held in check by a Huntington squad that shot 56.9% from the floor and dominated in the paint, outscoring Lourdes 58-28 inside.

The loss marks the sixth all-time NAIA National Championship appearance for Lourdes and the program's fourth straight, and first under head coach Jake DuPree. The Gray Wolves remain in search of their first national tournament victory, now holding an 0-6 record all-time in tournament play.

Despite the early exit, Lourdes capped an impressive season with a second-place finish in the WHAC standings and a return to the national stage. Monroe, the team's leader in scoring this season, surpassed the 1,000-point milestone earlier this year, cementing his place as one of the program's most dominant players.
