Baseball Falls to Aquinas in Road Doubleheader Despite Late Push

The Gray Wolves fell 9-0, before dropping game two 8-4.

ROCKFORD, Mich. (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University baseball team battled offensively but came up short in both games of Wednesday's doubleheader at Aquinas College, falling 9-0 in the opener and 8-4 in game two at the Meijers Sports Complex.

Game 1: Aquinas 9, Lourdes 0 (7 innings)

In the first game, Lourdes was held to just one hit as Aquinas (8-14) dominated from the start, earning a 9-0 win. The Gray Wolves' lone hit came from Alex Dupree, who singled in the third inning.

Aquinas took an early lead with a run in the first inning, adding a run each in the fourth and fifth frames, then exploded for six runs in the sixth to secure the win. Lourdes pitcher, Jacob Emerson (0-1), took the loss, allowing six earned runs over five innings of work.

Game 2: Aquinas 8, Lourdes 4

Lourdes put up a fight in the nightcap, tallying 10 hits, but a four-run fifth inning by Aquinas proved to be the difference.

The Gray Wolves struck first in the third inning when Landen Brown delivered a solo home run, marking the first of his career. Lourdes added another run in the fifth on an RBI single from Alex Dupree, but Aquinas answered with a four-run bottom half to extend its lead.

Lourdes pushed across two runs in the eighth, cutting the deficit to four, but could not complete the comeback. Brown led the offense with three hits, while A.J. Brinson added two hits and an RBI. Zane Mullins took the loss on the mound, allowing six runs over five innings.
