SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) – Fresh off a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) championship victory, the Lourdes University competitive cheer team will make its fifth appearance at the NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championship, set for March 28-29 at the George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Gray Wolves, one of nine automatic qualifiers in the 15-team field, will look to build on their historic season and contend for the coveted Red Banner.
Defending national champion St. Ambrose (Iowa) headlines the tournament field, seeking its third consecutive title, while four other past champions – Oklahoma City, Missouri Valley, Xavier (La.), and host Concordia (Mich.) – will also be in the mix. The championship marks a return to the national stage for Lourdes, whose last appearance came in 2020.
The event will begin on Friday, March 28, with the preliminary round set to start at 6:30 p.m. The teams' scores from this round will carry into Saturday's finals, where the national champion will be determined. Lourdes enters the championship following a dominant performance in the WHAC Tournament, where they posted an 86.41 in the finals, the highest score of any team in the event. This victory marked Lourdes' first WHAC title in seven years and ends Concordia's five-year reign as conference champions.
