Baseball Drops Road Doubleheader at UNOH

Gray Wolves fell 3-1 in the opening game before falling 4-2 in the second.

LIMA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University baseball team came up short in both games of Tuesday's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader at the University of Northwestern Ohio, falling 3-1 in the opener before dropping a 4-2 decision in game two at Racer Field.

Game 1: Northwestern Ohio 3, Lourdes 1
Lourdes struck first when Alex Dupree reached on a fielder's choice, allowing A.J. Brinson to cross the plate for a 1-0 advantage. The Racers answered in the fourth with a triple that would bring in a run and later scored on a sacrifice fly. Additionally, UNOH added an insurance run in the fifth on a double to right field. 

Jacob Emerson (0-3) took the loss despite a solid outing, allowing three runs on three hits over 5.0 innings while striking out three. Ryan Butler pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief. Offensively, Joel Suraganan recorded two of Lourdes' four hits.

Game 2: Northwestern Ohio 4, Lourdes 2
Lourdes put together a late rally in game two but was unable to complete the comeback, dropping a 4-2 decision to Northwestern Ohio in the nightcap.

The Racers broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with an RBI double before adding three more runs in the sixth. The Gray Wolves answered in the eighth when Andrew Arntson grounded out to third, bringing home Morgan Kleps. In the ninth, Jackson Kennedy singled to left field to drive in Jase Kennedy, but Lourdes stranded the tying run on base as the game ended.

Avery Harper (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing three earned runs over 2.0 innings in relief. Zane Mullins started the game with 4.0 scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while walking four. Jase Kennedy led the Lourdes offense with two hits in the game.

Up Next:
The Gray Wolves will host a pair of doubleheaders this weekend at Mercy Field. On Saturday, March 29, Lourdes will take on Indiana Tech University with games scheduled for 1 PM and 3 PM. The action continues on Sunday, March 30, as Aquinas College visits for two more games, also slated for 1 PM and 3 PM. Both doubleheaders are part of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference slate.
