SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University men's volleyball team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, sweeping No. 11-ranked Cornerstone University 25-21, 25-21, 25-14 on Senior Day inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. The win marked a historic milestone for head coach Greg Reitz, who earned his 500th career victory – 494 of which have come at the helm of the Gray Wolves.
Senior Mitch Hoffman was honored prior to the match and helped lead Lourdes to its fifth consecutive conference win as the Gray Wolves carried their momentum into postseason play.
Lourdes hit an efficient .355 as a team, tallying 48 kills to just 28 for the visiting Golden Eagles. Vinicius Lopes and Jaber Badarne powered the offense with 13 kills apiece, with Badarne also contributing three service aces. Ben Palma added seven kills on 13 swings to round out the balanced attack.
Joey Bianco facilitated the offense with 40 assists and added seven digs. Defensively, Brayden Moyars led all players with 17 digs, while Jack McMurray chipped in 10. Lourdes also held a 45-36 edge in digs and a 5-2 advantage in service aces.
The Gray Wolves hit .429 in the second set and closed the match with a dominant .350 mark in the third to pull away from the nationally ranked Golden Eagles.
