Softball Falls in Road Doubleheader at Indiana Tech

The Gray Wolves dropped game one 10-1, before falling 8-0 in the second.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University softball team came up short on the road Wednesday evening, dropping both ends of a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader to Indiana Tech University at Warrior Park. The Gray Wolves fell 10-1 in five innings in the opener before being blanked 8-0 in six innings in game two. With the setbacks, Lourdes moves to 7-18 overall and 4-10 in WHAC play.

Game One: Indiana Tech 10, Lourdes 1 (5 innings)
The Warriors broke the game open with a seven-run second inning, taking advantage of two hits, three hit batters, and an error to surge ahead early. Indiana Tech tacked on two more runs in the third and added one in the fourth to extend its lead.

Lourdes got on the scoreboard in the third when Brooke Albert swiped third and came home on an infield error. Alyssa Goretzka tallied two of the Gray Wolves' four hits in the contest, while Albert and Lauren Schuller added one apiece. Goretzka and Albert also stole a base.

Kirsten Smith took the loss, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing four earned runs. Berlynn Keller and Karlei Conrad both saw time in relief.

S. Bravo earned the win for Indiana Tech (24-10), striking out eight in four innings of work.

Game Two: Indiana Tech 8, Lourdes 0 (6 innings)
The Gray Wolves were again held in check offensively in the nightcap, falling 8-0 in six innings. Indiana Tech opened the scoring with a run in the first and put up three more in the second, taking advantage of a Lourdes miscue to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Lourdes had a few opportunities but couldn't convert, finishing with three hits—singles from Alyssa Goretzka and Lindsey McGann, and a double off the bat of De'Vona Holmes.

The Warriors added insurance with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth before closing it out in the sixth.

Kirsten Smith made the start for Lourdes and was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over 4.0 innings. Taylor Leggins pitched the final 1.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits.
