Baseball Honors Senior Day with Sunday Sweep over Michigan-Dearborn

The Gray Wolves honored 9 seniors prior to winning the first game 6-3 before taking game two 13-10.

TOLEDO, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) -- The Lourdes University baseball team celebrated Senior Day in winning fashion on Sunday afternoon at Mercy Field, sweeping a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader against the University of Michigan-Dearborn with 6-3 and 13-10 victories. The Gray Wolves honored their senior class prior to the start of the first game, then capped off the regular season home slate by combining for 19 runs and 21 hits across the two contests.

Game One: Lourdes 6, Michigan Dearborn 3
Lourdes opened its Senior Day doubleheader with a comeback victory, rallying for a 6-3 win over Michigan-Dearborn on Sunday afternoon at Mercy Field.

After falling behind 3-0 in the second inning, the Gray Wolves responded with five runs in the third—highlighted by a two-run double from Caleb Edwards-Dugan and RBI singles from Alex Dupree and Andrew Arntson—to take control of the game.

Dupree added an insurance RBI in the sixth, finishing 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and a stolen base. Austin Nuhfer earned the win on the mound, tossing four innings and allowing just three unearned runs, while Avery Harper closed the door with three scoreless frames to notch his second save of the season.

Game Two: Lourdes 13, Michigan Dearborn 10
Lourdes scored in each of the first four innings and held off a late push from Michigan-Dearborn to come away with a 13-10 victory on Sunday afternoon at Mercy Field, securing the series win.

The Gray Wolves erupted for eight runs over the first two frames and never trailed after the first inning. Joel Suraganan sparked the offense by reaching base four times, scoring four runs, and belting a solo home run in the second inning. He finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk.

Lourdes plated five in the opening inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Caleb Edwards-Dugan and an RBI triple by Skylar Mays. The Gray Wolves followed with three more runs in the second, as Suraganan's homer and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Nick DiGennaro extended the lead to 8-1.

The lead grew to 13-3 by the fourth inning, thanks to a two-run double by Andrew Arntson and another RBI single from Suraganan. Arntson drove in four runs on the day while Edwards-Dugan collected three hits and three RBIs.

Michigan-Dearborn didn't go quietly, rallying for seven runs over the final five innings. The Wolverines hit three home runs and capitalized on two Lourdes errors and a pair of passed balls to chip away at the deficit.
