Lourdes University women's soccer fell 5-1 on the road Wednesday afternoon at Indiana Wesleyan, as the Wildcats used four second-half goals to break open what was a close match at halftime.
Indiana Wesleyan (5-1) opened the scoring in the 23rd minute on a goal from Anna Pettitt. Lourdes (1-1) battled defensively through the rest of the half, with goalkeeper
Samarah Arendsen (Zeeland, Mich./West) making three first-half saves to keep the deficit at 1-0 at the break.
The Wildcats doubled their lead just three minutes into the second half and quickly extended it to 3-0 in the 51st minute on a pair of goals from Avery Williams. After Audrey Faletic added a fourth goal in the 76th minute, Lourdes got on the board less than a minute later when
Hollie Robinson (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Oak Harbor) converted a penalty kick for her first goal of the season.
Williams completed her hat trick in the 86th minute to seal the 5-1 final. Arendsen finished the afternoon with nine saves as the Gray Wolves were outshot 28-5 overall.
Lourdes will look to bounce back on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when the Gray Wolves host Olivet College at 2 p.m. in their home opener at Wildcat Stadium.
