Junior forward
Kayden Firsdon (Luckey, Ohio/Eastwood) scored once and added two assists as Lourdes University rallied past Wheeling University 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Ohio Dominican University.
After a scoreless first half, Wheeling (0-2) struck first in the 47th minute when Kaitlyn Osorio put the Cardinals ahead 1-0. The lead was short-lived, however, as Firsdon responded less than 30 seconds later with the equalizer for the Gray Wolves.
Lourdes (1-0) seized control in the 54th minute when
Taylir Lynam (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview) buried her first goal of the season off a feed from Firsdon. The junior forward then set up
Jaylyn Thornton (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) in the 71st minute to close out the 3-1 victory.
Goalkeeper
Samarah Arendsen (Zeeland, Mich./West) made seven saves to earn the win, while senior defender
Zoey Trout (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) anchored a back line that held Wheeling to just five shots on goal after halftime.
The Gray Wolves return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when they travel to Indiana Wesleyan for a 3 p.m. non-conference match.
