Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lourdes Jumps into 2nd Place in the WHAC

The Gray Wolves beat Michigan Dearborn by 27 points

DEARBORN, Mich. – Lourdes women's basketball (16-4) (12-2 in WHAC) beat Michigan Dearborn (4-16) (2-12 in WHAC) 75 to 48 on Saturday afternoon.

After Rochester Christian lost to Indiana Tech, Lourdes has leapfrogged RCU into second place in the conference. The Gray Wolves are just one game back from first place Indiana Tech.

1st Quarter
The Gray Wolves gave up the least amount of points they've allowed in a quarter all season against Michigan Dearborn with five in the first quarter. The Lourdes defense was ferocious, limiting the Wolverines to just 11.8% shooting on the quarter and forcing eight Wolverine turnovers.

Lourdes senior guard Oliwia Dyja came out of the gate shooting the lights out, scoring 10 points on two triples and a layup in the first quarter. Dyja would finish the game with 14 points, one shy of her season-high. The Gray Wolves were up 18 to 5 after the first.

2nd Quarter
Lourdes increased their lead to 19 by halftime (38 to 19), doubling up the Wolverines in points on the board. This quarter it was senior guard Emma Pedroza's time to shine. Pedroza dropped 11 points in the quarter and would end the game with a team-high 20 points and eclipsing the 1,700 point mark for her career.

Pedroza also earned a double-double in the game with 11 rebounds to lead all players.

3rd Quarter
The third quarter was very back-and-forth, leading to Lourdes barely increasing their lead to 22 with the final quarter to play. Senior forward Camryn Ivy had a great quarter, scoring seven points and corralling four offensive rebounds. Ivy ended the game tying her career-high she set last week with 18 points. Her 10 rebounds as well give her the first double-double in her Lourdes career.

Backup guard Ashley Zawisza led the way for the second-string once again, tying her career-high of nine points in the game with six of those coming in the third quarter. The bench scored 11 points in the game overall after playing significant second half minutes.

4th Quarter
Lourdes held on to the 27-point victory after another good offensive quarter where they scored 18 and Camryn Ivy scored seven. Separate 5-0 and 8-0 runs in the fourth by Lourdes helped put the Wolverines hopes to rest.

Stats
Lourdes played amazing perimeter defense, holding Michigan Dearborn to 7.1% shooting from deep. The rebounding advantage went Lourdes' way by 11 boards, giving the Gray Wolves 19 second chance points on the night.

Coach Bradford's Postgame Comments
"We are always excited to go on the road and win," coach Bradford said. "Our execution taking care of the ball and in defensive rotation wasn't as good as it has been. However, we had players really pushing to play at a different level and stay focused on our goals."

Next Game
Lourdes looks to stay undefeated at home next Wednesday as they take on Defiance at 7:30 pm for National Women in Sports Night.
