SYLVANIA, Ohio – Lourdes men's basketball sophomore guard
Derek Fairley has been selected to the Bevo Francis Award top 50 watch list, Small College Basketball announced on Sunday afternoon.
The Bevo Francis Award is given to the best "small college" men's basketball player in the country, meaning only players in the NCAA Division 2, NCAA Division 3, and NAIA levels are considered.
In January, the top 100 list came out. Yesterday, the list was shortened to just 50 names, with Fairley remaining a selection. The 25 semifinalists will be announced a month from now, on March 15. The winner will be announced on Apr. 6.
Fairley has been one of the most consistent players in the country this season, averaging 23.7 points per game, the sixth-highest mark in the entire NAIA. The Cleveland, Ohio native has led the Gray Wolves in scoring in almost every game this year, and is a main offensive weapon in clutch situations.
Fairley has scored 20 or more points in 19 out of 26 games this year (73.1%). He's also scored 30 or more points in over a quarter of the games this season.
Fairley's best game came when he dropped a career-high 37 points in the double overtime victory over Northwestern Ohio back on Jan. 14. On Wednesday, Fairley and the Gray Wolves will rematch the Racers in Lima, Ohio.
