Lourdes Drops Monday Nightcap to Fort Lauderdale

Lindsey McGann had another multi-hit performance

Viera, Fla. – The Lourdes softball team (1-3, 0-0 in WHAC) lost to the Fort Lauderdale Eagles (3-17) by four runs during the Space Coast Tournament's opening nightcap game.

The Gray Wolves fall to 1-1 in the tournament and 1-3 on the season, but kept the game close throughout due to some timely hitting and solid defense.

Lourdes struck first after Olivia Hickman scored on a passed ball in the top of the third inning. The Gray Wolves' power-hitting designated hitter reached base on a line drive single to left field earlier in the frame.

The Gray Wolves went up 2-0 in the fourth inning after sophomore shortstop Lindsey McGann hit a clutch two-out double down the line to score Robyn Ryan all the way from first base. McGann went 2-for-4 for her second straight multi-hit game as she has been leading the offense thus far in the tournament.

Despite the hot start, Fort Lauderdale scored six unanswered runs over the next four innings to win the game 6-2. The streak started in the bottom of the fourth when Sarah Messina stole home to cut the Lourdes lead to 2-1.

The Gray Wolves' starting pitcher in the game was Mallori Bradley. The senior had a solid first four innings but started giving up more hard contact in the fifth after Fort Lauderdale loaded the bases up on a couple of singles. She was taken out of the game and replaced by Berlynn Keller who had to deal with the traffic jam on the base paths.

Keller gave up a single to Ava Gelm that scored two runs and put Fort Lauderdale up 3-2 after the fifth inning concluded. Zoe Ziems then came in the game in the sixth and gave up a couple more runs as the Eagles iced the game in the later innings.

Fort Lauderdale's pitcher, Ava Gelm, was electric all night for the Eagles, The ace threw a complete game with one earned run allowed and one walk given up.
