COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lourdes baseball team (6-5, 0-0 in WHAC) defeated the Lindsey-Wilson Blue Raiders (7-12, 0-0 in MSC), 6-4 on Monday afternoon, wrapping up a road series sweep.
After starting off the year dropping their first four games, Lourdes has now won six of their last seven contests and is one of the hottest teams in the WHAC.
First baseman
Alex Dupree continued his absolute tear off Blue Raiders pitching in the game, going three-for-five with an RBI single in the first inning to kick off the scoring.
Outfielder
Jase Kennedy walked in a run later in the inning to put the Gray Wolves up 2-0 early in the game.
On the mound for Lourdes was junior
Ayden Hall. The local Sylvania Northview graduate got his first victory of the season after throwing six strong innings with seven strikeouts, and just two earned runs allowed.
The Blue Raiders were able to tie the game briefly after a couple of singles in the early innings. However, after back-to-back two-out hits, Lourdes' power-hitting senior catcher Andrew Arnston hit his second home run of the season in the fourth to regain the lead. The three-run shot scored
Alex Dupree and
Landon Brown and put Lourdes up 5-2.
The Blue Raiders tacked on another run in the bottom half of the fourth to cut the lead to two, where the score would stand until the final frame.
Freshman
Ryan Ragusa threw a great game in relief for Lourdes, getting a rare three inning save and sealing the 6-4 victory for the Terracotta & Gray.
Stats
Lourdes had a season-high 11 hits in the contest but struggled defensively with three errors.
Landon Brown,
Alex Dupree, Andrew Arnston, and
Will Brose all had multi-hit games at the dish. Dupree, in particular, had an incredible series, batting .700 with a .757 OBP % and six RBI's.
Coach Bradford's Postgame Comments
"We pitched great again today," Coach Bradford said postgame. "Another tight game where we just stayed in the moment, made some big plays, and executed some big pitches. We got three big two-out hits in the fourth to carry the energy for us the rest of the way. We are still leaving a lot of runners on base, but we are confident that will continue to improve."
Next Up
Lourdes continues their long Kentucky road trip with a doubleheader tomorrow against Kentucky Christian and a doubleheader on Wednesday against Georgetown.
