Ryan Ferkel joined the Lourdes University volleyball staff in July of 2019 as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams.

During his two seasons with the Gray Wolves, he helped produce a First and Second Team All-American as well as four Honorable Mention All-American honorees on the men’s side.  He also helped guide four First Team All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference honorees and two more Second Team All-WHAC picks.  During his time on the bench, the men have had three individuals earn First Team Academic All-District I honors with one being named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team.

On the women’s side, three players were named Second Team All-WHAC during Ferkel’s tenure assisting the squad.

Ferkel spent the 2018 season as the varsity coach at Northwood High School following a stint as a regional head coach for the Toledo Storm Volleyball Club.  He began his coaching career in 2016 as the seventh-grade coach at Springfield Middle School.

A standout player on the court himself, Ferkel was the Mideast Conference Player of the Year and Setter of the Year in 2016 while also earning First Team All-MEC honors.  He was twice named the NAIA National Setter of the Week and was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team honoree.  Ferkel was named to the conference All-Academic Team as well as a NAIA Scholar-Athlete for his efforts in the classroom.

Ferkel is a 2017 graduate of Lourdes with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and business management.  He is currently completing his master’s degree in business administration from the University.
