On Wednesday afternoon history was made for Lourdes University athletic program as the men's volleyball team took to the court at the Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter for the first time ever. The men hosted the #1 ranked team in the country in St. Ambrose University Fighting Bees.

The first serve was done by the Fighting Bees #3 George Langheld who fire up an ace. It would be a quick 3-0 start for St. Ambrose before Lourdes would get their first point of in history. The first point for Lourdes would come via a service error by George Langheld.

Lourdes would stick around in the first set as they would find a way to stay within four points through the midway point of the match at 14-18. The Gray Wolves would fall behind even more as the set continued on to a 17-23 advantage for the Fighting Bees before the Gray Wolves would mount a comeback to make it 19-24. The Fighting Bees would close out the first set with the win 13-25.

The Gray Wolves would finish the first set stats with a kill advantage of 11-10. The Fighting Bees would only commit three errors to Lourdes eight.

The second set would look a lot like the first with the Bees jumping out to a 0-4 lead before Lourdes would fight back and trail 11-13. The teams would exchange points for a bit before Lourdes would tie things up at 16 a piece behind stellar defensive net play. The Gray Wolves would grab their first lead of the match at 18-17 before quickly the Fighting Bees would tie things back up again. Lourdes would call a timeout trailing 19-23. The Bees would look to be in control and ready for a set victory but the Gray Wolves would not be denied as they would put together a rally to force a Bees timeout at 23-24. Following the timeout the Bees would put a kill together off the Lourdes serve and win the set 23-25.
The kills were even for both teams in the second set at 14 a piece. Also, both teams were even with seven errors a piece.

The third set would start better for Lourdes as they would jump out to a 3-0 lead before the #1 ranked team would score. Lourdes would quickly grab two points in a row though to make it 5-1 Gray Wolves forcing a St. Ambrose timeout. Lourdes would come out of the St. Ambrose timeout inspired and ready as they would open up their lead to a eight point advantage 11-3. The big advantage would not last long though as the Bees would fight back closing the gap to 15-13 midway through the third set. The Bees would cut it to one at 17-16 before a Nick Demarco kill would put it back to two points at 18-17. The Bees would take their first lead of the set at 20-21 after a failed block attempt for Lourdes. Lourdes would fight back though and tie things up at 22 apiece.

The Gray Wolves would battle tough in all three sets but just come up short in their opening debut.
