On Wednesday afternoon the Lourdes University men's volleyball team hosted the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose University at the Sylvania Tam-O-Shanter as part of a double header action. St. Ambrose would get the victory in four sets 3-1.

The first set would be a battle back and forth early on as Lourdes would take a 13-11 lead. The Gray Wolves were playing inspired after losing the first half of the doubleheader to the #1 ranked Bees.  The Gray Wolves would push their lead to four points at 21-17 before a Fighting Bees timeout. The set would get tighter though with the Gray Wolves taking a 23-20 advantage. The Gray Wolves would take the first set from the #1 ranked team in the country 25-23.

The Gray Wolves outplayed the Fighting Bees in the first set. Both teams committed five errors. St. Ambrose led in kills at 14 to 12 and had a better percentage at .321 to .250 but the Gray Wolves attack and stellar defense led them to a set victory.

The second set would not start out the way the Gray Wolves had hoped as it seemed they had lost all momentum against the Bees falling behind early 4-10. Lourdes would fight back though to a four point difference at 16-20. The Gray Wolves would drop the second set 18-25.

The third set would be no different than any other with these two teams battling back and forth fighting for each point. The teams would tie things up at 10 a piece before Lourdes would take their first lead of the set at 11-10. The endless back and forth points would continue as the two teams would tie it up at 15 , 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22. The Fighting Bees would finally take a two point lead at 22-24. St. Ambrose would win the third set 23-25.

St. Ambrose would lead in kills in the third set 17-15. Lourdes trailed in pct .414 to .333 and each team had five errors.

The fourth set looked early like it would be all St. Ambrose as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead before the Gray Wolves would fight back to 7-5 deficit. The Bees would amass a 12-8 advantage before Lourdes would fight it back to a 12-10 disadvantage. The Fighting Bees would take advantage of a couple of Gray Wolves mistakes and build a 20-15 advantage.  The Gray Wolves wouldn't give up though as they rallied to a 22-24 disadvantage.  Lourdes would keep the points coming as they tied it all up 24 all after being down by as many as eight points including four match points for the Bees. Lourdes would take a 25-24 lead for one series before the Bees would come back with two points of their own to lead 25-26. Zander Epps would get a huge kill to tie things back up at 26 before a service error by Lourdes would give the advantage back to the Bees. Things would end up at 27 on a controversial call on whether it was a block or not. Then the score would tie up at 28, 29 before St. Ambrose would win 31-29.

Lourdes drops to 0-2 overall and in Mamvic Play.
