Lourdes Swept at #5 Saint Ambrose

Lourdes began its 14-match road trip on Friday evening by suffering a 25-22, 25-15, 27-25 setback to fifth-ranked Saint Ambrose at Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport, Iowa.
 
“We did not play our best volleyball by far tonight,” head coach Greg Reitz said afterwards.  “We were nowhere near the level we needed to be at against a good opponent that played a solid match.”
 
Saint Ambrose hit .333 for the match while holding the Gray Wolves to a .125 hitting percentage and outblocked Lourdes 13-2 on the night.
 
The opening set saw 14 ties and five lead changes before the Bees pulled away with the victory.  Lourdes held a 20-18 lead late in the set before Saint Ambrose scored seven of the final nine points to pull out the win.  Set two saw the hosts slowly open up a lead throughout the stanza before finishing on a 10-4 run to take a 2-0 advantage.  The Gray Wolves fought back from 22-19 down in set three to force extra points, only to see Saint Ambrose finish the match with back-to-back kills.
 
Nick DiMarco (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with 11 kills while Chris Lockwood (Kailua, Hawaii/Poway [Calif.] H.S.) added eight kills and hit .235.  Brad Miller (Convoy, Ohio/Convoy H.S.) led Lourdes with 10 digs.
 
George Langhald paced Saint Ambrose (12-3, 8-1 MAMVIC East) with 11 kills and seven blocks while Dan Dierking added 10 kills and hit .474 for the match. 
 
Lourdes (3-5, 1-4) will remain in Iowa on Saturday, traveling to Dubuque to face Clarke.  First serve is slated for 1 p.m. EST at the Kehl Center.
