Lourdes Sweeps Robert Morris for Third Straight Win

Lourdes hit .348 as a team, its second best hitting night of the season, on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves ran a their win streak to three straight with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-16 victory over Robert Morris (Ill.) at Attack Athletics in Chicago, Ill.
 
“We played well as a team tonight and this was a good team victory,” head coach Greg Reitz said.  “We took care of things on our side of the net which was key.”
 
Nick DiMarco (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance H.S.) hit .471 with a match-high 12 kills while Chris Lockwood (Kailua, Hawaii/Poway [Calif.] H.S.) tallied nine kills on 12 swings, hitting .667. 
 
“Nick and Chris both hit well,” Reitz added.  “Nick also had a couple of good blocks.”
 
Trailing 8-6 in set one, Lourdes went on an 11-2 run to take control and limited the Eagles to just .143 hitting to win the opener.  The Gray Wolves led from the opening point in set two, although it was close until late.  Leading 17-15, Lourdes went on a 6-2 spurt to secure the victory and take a 2-0 lead in the match.  Set three saw Lourdes go on another late run, scoring 11 of the final 15 points, to close out the victory.  A block by Frank Craig (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood H.S.) and Steve Barcus (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon H.S.) capped the night and moved the Gray Wolves over the .500 mark for the first time since the opening match of the season.
 
Barcus handed out 33 assists in the three sets while Brad Miller (Convoy, Ohio/Crestview H.S.) led the way defensively with 11 digs. 
 
Kevin Lord paced Robert Morris (2-11, 2-9 MAMVIC East) with eight kills and six digs.
 
Lourdes (6-5, 4-4) will return to Attack Athletics on Saturday for a pair of neutral site matches.  The Gray Wolves will face Hannibal-LaGrange at 11 a.m. EST followed by a match against eighth-ranked Missouri Valley at 1 p.m. EST.
 
“We need to play well again tomorrow,” Reitz concluded.  “Our next nine matches are all non-conference so they will be good tests for us.”
