Volleyball Concludes Weekend with a Split

Lourdes volleyball team wrapped up its weekend in Chicago on Saturday afternoon, splitting a pair of matches at Attack Athletics.  The Gray Wolves won their opener against Hannibal-LaGrange 15-25, 31-29, 25-21, 27-25 before falling to eighth-ranked Missouri Valley 16-25, 28-26, 25-20, 25-16.
 
The Gray Wolves opened the day struggling offensively in set one against the Trojans, committing 11 errors and hitting -.054 to fall behind in the match.  Lourdes rebounded over the next three sets, hitting .236 as a team for the match, including .406 in the third set, to win its fourth consecutive match.
 
Nick DiMarco (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance H.S.) led Lourdes hitting .320 with 24 kills while Oliver Cizmazia (Bratislava, Slovakia/Metodova H.S.) added 12 kills and 13 digs.  Brad Miller (Convoy, Ohio/Crestview H.S.) recorded 22 digs while Julian Rivera (Bayamon, P.R./Wesleyan Academy) added six blocks.
 
As a team, Lourdes blocked Hannibal-LaGrange (1-9) 10 times on the day.
 
In the final match against the nationally-ranked Vikings, the Gray Wolves struggled in set one, committing 11 errors while hitting -.027 and hit -.100 with just four kills in the final set.  However, the Gray Wolves rebounded to pull out a tight second set to avoid the shutout.
 
DiMarco led Lourdes with 12 kills while Frank Craig (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood H.S.) added 10 more.  Miller registered 16 digs in the victory.
 
Peterson Silva led Missouri Valley (8-4) with 14 kills and 13 digs.
 
Lourdes (7-6) will return to action non Friday, March 1, traveling to Davenport, Iowa for the Fighting Bee Classic.  The Gray Wolves will face Hannibal-LaGrange at 5 p.m. EST before facing top-ranked Park at 9 p.m. EST.
