Lourdes University saw its four-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 25-19, 25-21, 25-14 decision to fourth-ranked Clarke at Springfield High School.
 
“As well as we played last night, we played just the opposite today,” head coach Greg Reitz stated.  “You have to play better than we did today against good teams.  This was not a good team performance.”
 
The opening set was close until Clarke scored six of the final eight points to take an early lead in the match.  In set two, Lourdes led 11-9 before the Crusaders went on a 10-2 run to seize control of the set. Clarke then closed the match with a 14-6 run in set three.
 
Nick DiMarco (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance H.S.) led Lourdes with 10 kills as the Gray Wolves hit just .078 as a team for the match.  Steve Barcus (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon H.S.) had just 16 assists.
 
Defensively, Brad Miller (Convoy, Ohio/Crestview H.S.) registered eight digs while Frank Craig (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood H.S.) had three blocks.
 
Tyler Wills led Clarke (16-8, 9-2 MAMVIC East) with 11 kills and hit .400 as Joe Kosciw handed out 29 assists.  Kevin Murphy recorded eight digs and Tyler Oehmen had four blocks for the Crusaders.  Clarke hit .317 as a team and outdug the Gray Wolves 30-24 for the contest.
 
Lourdes (13-10, 6-5) will close out the regular season on Tuesday, March 26, hosting Siena Heights.  First serve at Tam-o-Shanter is set for 7 p.m. on Senior Night.
