Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes opens its third season of men's collegiate volleyball season this weekend as the Gray Wolves travel to Cincinnati for four matches. The Gray Wolves will begin play on Friday against Great Lakes Conference member Cincinnati Christian before heading to Mount Saint Joseph on Saturday and Sunday for tournament action. The Gray Wolves will face #9 Missouri Valley on Saturday while battling Rust and the host Lions.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his third season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 31-21 (.596) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He was named to the MAMVIC East Coach of the Year in 2012. Reitz is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes has never met Cincinnati Christian in men's volleyball. The Gray Wolves are 0-1 all-time against Missouri Valley, falling in four sets on Feb. 23, 2013 in Chicago, Ill. Lourdes is 1-0 all-time against Rust, having defeated the Bearcats in straight sets on Feb. 25, 2012 at the Mount Saint Joseph tournament. The Gray Wolves are 2-0 all-time against Mount Saint Joseph, having swept the Lions on Feb. 18, 2012 in Chicago and again in Cincinnati on Feb. 26, 2012.
Wrapping Up 2013: The Gray Wolves finished the 2013 campaign with a 15-11 record overall. In their second season as members of the MAMVIC East, Lourdes posted a 7-5 record, finishing fourth in the conference standings.
Brad Miller and
Nick DiMarco were both named First Team All-Conference picks.
Frank Craig and
Trevor Lund were each named Honorable Mention selections.
Scouting Cincinnati Christian: The Eagles are beginning their inaugural season of men's volleyball with their match against Lourdes on Friday, giving the school nine varsity sports.
Scouting Missouri Valley: The Vikings posted a 21-10 record overall, tying a school mark for victories in a season. They had a 5-5 mark in the MAMVIC West . Missouri Valley returns a pair of All-MAMVIC West selections in Jacob Haar and Will McCracken. Haar was also named the MAMVIC West Newcomer of the Year one season ago.
Scouting Rust: The Bearcats went 5-11 during the 2013 season.
Scouting Mount Saint Joseph: The Lions are reviving their men's volleyball program this season after not playing during the 2013 campaign. In 2012 Mount Saint Joseph posted a 4-21 record overall and a 1-7 mark in the Continental Volleyball Conference.
Lourdes in Season Openers: The Gray Wolves are 1-1 all-time in their season openers. Lourdes lost its inaugural match of the 2012 season 3-0 to #1 Saint Ambrose, but swept Robert Morris (Ill.) in three sets at home to begin the 2013 campaign.
New Faces: Of the 14 players on the 2014 roster, only seven return from last season.
Chris Lockwood is the lone senior on this year's squad, which also features six freshmen and one transfer.
Facing Ranked Opponents: Missouri Valley enters the match ranked 9th in the country and will mark the 22nd match all-time in which Lourdes has faced a ranked opponent. The Gray Wolves are 3-18 all-time against ranked foes, last defeating #8 Graceland 3-0 on March 3, 2012.
The Great Lakes Conference: With men's volleyball moving from MAMVIC to NAIA Men's Volleyball, Lourdes has been assigned to the Great Lakes Conference. The Gray Wolves join fellow MAMVIC East squads Cardinal Stritch, Robert Morris (Ill.), Siena Heights, and Saint Xavier, along with newcomer Cincinnati Christian.
Captains Named: Lourdes has announced tri-captains for the 2014 season. Serving in that role are juniors
Frank Craig,
Brad Miller, and
Jo'Lon Clark.

Brad Miller registered 291 digs to lead Lourdes last year ... 14 of 26 matches were decided in three sets in 2012 while just five went the full five sets.
