Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.) scored a game-high 22 points in her collegiate debut while senior
Jessica Durr (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton H.S.) added 21 points and a game-high nine rebounds as Lourdes overcame a 14-point first half deficit to defeat Rochester (Mich.) 87-77 on Thursday night at Tam-o-Shanter in the Gray Wolves' season opener.

Thompson scored 14 of her points in the second half and went 9-of-14 from the floor for the night while adding five assists. Durr was nearly perfect from the field, connecting on 7-of-8 attempts as Lourdes shot a blistering 59.3% from the floor for the night, including a 66.7% clip in the second half.

"For Mo to come out as a freshman and run the point in a pressure game and perform like she did I couldn't have asked for anything more," head coach
Karen McConnell said after the win. "Jess Durr had a huge game as well both scoring and rebounding."

Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) added 15 points, four offensive rebounds, and four steals in her collegiate debut while
Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) tallied 14 points without leaving the floor on the evening.

"Fidler did an amazing job defensively," McConnell added. "I thought we were too greedy early trying to get some baskets. Rochester did what we expected early but our kids battled and chipped away."

Rochester used a 15-4 run midway through the first half to take a 32-18 lead with 8:28 to play before the break. The Gray Wolves slowly climbed back in the contest, scoring 15 straight points capped by a three-pointer by Thompson and a layup by
Emily Orsini (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban H.S.) at the 2:42 mark to put Lourdes on top 42-38. The 15 straight points were part of a larger 24-4 run to close the first half by the Gray Wolves, putting the hosts in front 44-38 at the break.

Lourdes extended its lead to 11, 51-40, less than three minutes into the second half before the Warriors climbed back. A 16-6 run over the next six minutes pulled Rochester to within one, before baskets on three straight possessions by
Chloe Warvel (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles H.S.), Thompson, and a triple by Tilden pushed the advantage back to eight in just over a minute.

The Gray Wolves were able to maintain a lead of at least six over the final 10 minutes to secure the team's second season-opening victory in program history.

Lourdes took advantage on the glass, turning 14 offensive boards into 18 second chance points while outrebounding the Warriors 40-33. The Gray Wolves outscored Rochester 48-26 in the point.

Tiffany Misch led Rochester (3-1) with 19 points while Jackie Highstreet added 18 points and Erica Schwartz chipped in 12 more for the Warriors. After shooting 50% from the floor over the opening 20 minutes, the Warriors connected on just 33.3% of its shots in the second half, including just 2-of-15 (13.3%) three-point attempts.

Lourdes (1-0) will look to make it back-to-back victories on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves travel to Wilberforce, Ohio to take on Wilberforce University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at the Health and Fitness Center.
