Lourdes opened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon with a 67-48 victory over Michigan-Dearborn at Tam-o-Shanter.

Jake DuPree (Toledo, Ohio/Whiteford H.S.) tallied 22 points, just one off of his career high, and added five steals for the Gray Wolves while Zach Steinmetz (Toledo, Ohio/Saint John's H.S.) fourth double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

"We had a great team effort tonight," head coach Andre Smith stated after the win.  "Defense is the key to our success and I thought we had a solid showing tonight.  The energy we had tonight is what we need to bring every night."

Both team started slowly as the game was tied at five more than nine minutes into the contest.  Leading 11-10 with seven minutes to play before intermission, Lourdes slowly extended its lead.  The Gray Wolves eight points in the final 2:20 before a three-pointer at the buzzer by the Wolverines sent the teams into the locker room with Lourdes in front 26-19.

The Gray Wolves held Michigan-Dearborn to just 29.2% shooting over the first 20 minutes while forcing 12 Wolverine turnovers.

A 10-0 run over four minutes in the second half increased Lourdes advantage to 46-26 and the Gray Wolves were able to maintain its advantage the rest of the way.  Lourdes never let its lead get below 15 while registering its fourth straight victory.

Lourdes shot 49.1% from the floor for the game, including a 64% (16-of-25) clip over the final 20 minutes.  The Gray Wolves took advantage of 19 Wolverine turnovers, turning them into 25 points.  E.J. Blackwell (Rochester, Pa./Rochester H.S.) tallied nine points and grabbed six rebounds.

"We did a good job on the glass, Smith added.  "We also got on the floor and did the little things that are key to success."

Jamiel Strickland led Michigan-Dearborn (1-5, 0-1 WHAC) with 16 points while Darryl Mobley Jr added 14 points off of the bench.

Lourdes (4-1, 1-0) will take to the road on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Grand Rapids, Mich.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. against Cornerstone at Mol Arena.
