Playing the second game of a three-game road trip on Saturday afternoon, Lourdes dropped an 84-65 decision to Lawrence Tech at Ridler Fieldhouse in Southfield, Mich.
Â
"We need to become more consistent," head coach
Karen McConnell said after the game. "That means focusing on fundamental skills. Little details seem to become big negatives for us."
Â
Lourdes jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead just four minutes into the game following a three-pointer from
Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.). The Blue Devils cut their deficit down to one before the Gray Wolves extended the lead back to seven, 19-12, after an
Emily Orsini (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban H.S.) basket with 11 minutes left in the first half.
Â
Lawrence Tech held Lourdes without a field goal for more than five minutes while going on a 21-1 run, giving the Blue Devils a 33-20 lead. The hosts also closed the half with a 9-0 run while taking a 51-33 lead into the locker room.
Â
"We did a good job early coming out ready to play," McConnell added. "However they punched us and we didn't respond like we needed to."
Â
Lourdes cut the deficit to 13, 55-42, after a three-point play by Orsini with 13:17 to play in the game. The Gray Wolves we within 11, 62-51, with nine minutes remaining, but were never able to cut their deficit to single digits the rest of the way.
