Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) scored 16 points to lead Lourdes on Saturday afternoon, but the Gray Wolves suffered their first setback of the 2014-2015 season, dropping an 88-55 decision to Mount Vernon Nazarene at Ariel Arena in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Â
The Gray Wolves shot just 36.2% from the floor on the afternoon while allowing the Cougars to connect at a 52.1% rate.
Â
"We deserved this result today," head coach
Karen McConnell stated afterwards. "We played like we practiced all week and that was not good. They were a lot more physical than us and we just backed down. It was an overall poor team effort on both offense and defense."
Â
Mount Vernon Nazarene used a 14-4 run late in the first half to build a 45-28 lead at the break. The Cougars then scored 14 unanswered points over a five-minute span early in the second half to push the lead over 30, and never allowed the Gray Wolves to get back into the game.
Â
Chloe Warvel (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles H.S.) and
Erica Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/Holy Name H.S.) added eight points each while
Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.Â
Â
Megan Beidelman went 12-for-13 from the floor on the way to 25 points to lead Mount Vernon Nazarene (1-2) while grabbing 11 rebounds. Ainsleigh Krause added 15 points and eight boards as the Cougars won for the first time this season.
Â
Lourdes (3-1) will return home to Tam-o-Shanter on Tuesday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain Kuyper. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
