Lourdes closed out its four-match homestand on Friday evening in victorious fashion, defeating Saint Xavier 25-16, 15-25, 25-20, 25-18 at Tam-o-Shanter to close out the first half of Great Lakes Conference play with a 4-1 record.
 
Brad Miller (Convoy, Ohio/Crestview H.S.) tallied a double-double, posting 12 kills and 10 digs while hitting a team-best .400 on the mark, moving to outside hitter after playing the last several matches at libero.
 
After trailing 9-8 in the opening set, the Gray Wolves went on a 14-3 run to seize control of the stanza and build an early lead in the match.  Lourdes hit .480 in set one, with 15 kills and just three errors while defensively recording four blocks.
 
Set two was a role reversal as the Cougars never trailed.  Lourdes hit -.071 with 10 attack errors, while Saint Xavier swung at a .450 clip, committing just one miscue.  The Gray Wolves bounced back in the third, hitting .321.  The set was tied nine times and had four lead changes before three straight points put the Gray Wolves on top for good 16-14. 
 
In the final set Saint Xavier raced out to a 6-2 lead before Jo'Lon Clark (Compton, Calif./Long Beach Poly H.S.) led a 12-0 run from the service line, registering a pair of aces, as Lourdes built a 14-6 advantage.  The lead grew to as large as 10, 20-10, before the Gray Wolves finished off the victory.
 
Garrett Jones (Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas H.S.) tallied a team-high 15 kills for the Gray Wolves while Clark added 10 more.  CJ Rilveria (Kula, Hawaii/Kekaulike H.S.) notched a match-high 14 digs for the gray Wolves.
 
Lourdes hit .221 for the match while the Cougars swung at a .211 rate and the Gray Wolves held an 8-5 blocking advantage.  Lourdes also tallied an 8-5 edge in aces and outdug Saint Xavier 40-28 on the night.
 
Justin Cousin led Saint Xavier (0-8, 0-2 GLC) with nine kills while Nick Piccirillo tallied nine digs.
 
Lourdes (7-1, 4-1) will head to Milwaukee, Wis. next weekend for the Stritch Wolves Invitational.  The Gray Wolves will face host Cardinal Stritch on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. EST in a Great Lakes Conference match before battling Missouri Valley at 7 p.m.
