Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: The 2014 regular season comes to a close for Lourdes University's men's volleyball team this week with a pair of Great Lakes Conference matches. The Gray Wolves will travel north to Adrian, Mich. on Wednesday night to battle Siena Heights before hosting Cincinnati Christian on Friday evening in a contest that will be played at Owens Community College in Perrysburg.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his third season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 44-26 (.629) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He was named to the MAMVIC East Coach of the Year in 2012. Reitz is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 8-0 all-time against Siena Heights after defeating the Saints twice earlier this season. Both matches were Gray Wolf sweeps and played at Tam-o-Shanter. Lourdes is 3-0 against the Saints in Adrian. The Gray Wolves are 1-0 all-time against Cincinnati Christian, defeating the Eagles in three sets down in Cincinnati to open the 2014 season.
Earlier This Season: Lourdes held Siena Heights to -.058 hitting for the match on Jan. 29 and defeated the Saints 25-8, 25-13, 25-18.
Frank Craig hit .538 with eight kills while
Brad Miller tallied seven digs. Gilius Blinstrubas led Siena Heights with eight kills and Allanderson Meira had 12 digs. On Feb. 28, Lourdes hit .321 as a team and defeated Siena Heights 25-15, 25-22, 25-16 at home. Craig hit .365 with 13 kills while
Jo'Lon Clark had a team-high six digs. Blinstrubas led the Saints with nine kills and Meira had eight digs. Lourdes hit .441 for the match on Jan. 17 while rolling to a 25-8, 25-12, 25-11 victory over Cincinnati Christian in the Queen City. Craig hi .63 for the match with seven kills while Miller registered 13 digs. Benjamin Leatherman and Wesley Brown led the Eagles with five kills each while Ariel Mile tallied 10 digs.
Wrapping Up Last Week: After leading two sets to none on March 7, Robert Morris (Ill.) rallied for a five-set victory over the Gray Wolves.
Frank Craig tallied 17 kills in the loss On March 8 Lourdes rebounded with a four-set win at Saint Xavier.
Jo'Lon Clark registered a team-high 15 kills in the victory. The Gray Wolves cruised to a three-set sweep of Lindenwood-Belleville last Monday (March 10) behind 13 kills from Clark. A day later Lourdes swept Culver-Stockton as
Garrett Jones put down a team-high 13 kills while hitting .455. The spring trip ended on March 12 with a three-set loss to NCAA Division II Quincy. Clark led Lourdes with 13 kills.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter their regular season finale looking to snap a four-match losing streak after falling in straight sets at both Cardinal Stritch at Robert Morris (Ill.) last weekend. Gilius Blinstrubas leads Siena Heights with 181 kills and 24 service aces while Gabriel Murley has handed out 196 assists. Allanderson Meira has a team-high 146 digs while Lance Blough has tallied 43 blocks.
Scouting Cincinnati Christian: The Eagles head into their regular season finale looking to snap an 18-match losing streak. Cincinnati Christian fell to both Grand View and California-Merced in straight sets last Saturday at the Johnson & Wales Tournament. Manny Celestino leads the Eagles with 143 kills and 15 service aces while Logan Snow has registered 320 assists. Defensively, Ariel Milo has a team-leading 211 digs while Ben Leatherman has recorded 38 blocks.
Thanks Chris: Chris Lockwood is the lone senior on the Lourdes men's volleyball roster this season and he will be honored prior to the regular season finale on Friday evening. Lockwood leads the Gray Wolves hitting .294 this season and also has a team-best 62 blocks. Lockwood ranks second with 17 service aces and is fourth on the team with 111 kills.
Home Away From Home: For the second straight season Lourdes is forced to play home matches away from home as Tam-o-Shanter is being used for another function this weekend. Last year the Gray Wolves played two home matches at Springfield High School, defeating Saint Xavier and falling to Clarke. The match at Owens on Friday will be a tune-up for the Great Lakes Conference tournament, which begins next Friday at the same location.
The Conference Race: Lourdes needs two victories this week along with a loss by Cardinal Stritch on Thursday night at home against Saint Xavier to share the Great Lakes Conference title. With just one win this week, the Gray Wolves will assure themselves a bye into the tournament semifinals, and will not have to play during the morning session next Friday.
Looking to Match the 2013 Win Total: Lourdes' 13 victories this season is two shy of the 15 that the Gray Wolves posted in 2013. However, Lourdes has played just 18 matches to date while last year the Gray Wolves finished 15-11 in 26 contests. The school record for wins came in 2012 when Lourdes finished the year 16-10 while again playing 26 matches.
Digging for Volleyballs: Lourdes ranks second in NAIA Men's Volleyball averaging 11.17 digs per set this season.
Brad Miller is second individually, tallying 3.09 digs per set.
