Lourdes Volleyball Advances to Great Lakes Conference Tournament Title Match

Lourdes University's men's volleyball team advanced to Saturday's championship match of the Great Lakes Conference tournament with a 25-18, 25-18, 18-25, 25-21 victory over Robert Morris (Ill.) on Friday evening in the semifinals held at the Student Health and Activities Center on the campus of Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio.
 
The Gray Wolves hit .261 for the match led by 16 kills from Jo'Lon Clark (Compton, Calif./Long Beach Poly H.S.) and 12 more from Frank Craig (Jacksonville, Fla./Englewood H.S.).  Julian Rivera (Bayamon, P.R./Wesleyan Academy) added six kills on just 11 attempts to hit .545 for the night.
 
Lourdes led wire to wire in the opening set and took the lead for good at 2-1 in the second set in racing out to a quick lead in the match.  Robert Morris, which had defeated Cincinnati Christian in Friday's quarterfinal, went on a 6-0 run midway through the third to take the lead and eventually extend the match.  The Gray Wolves took control of the fourth set with a 13-4 run to clinch the match.
 
Bryan Downs (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon H.S.) handed out 23 assists while CJ Rilveria (Kula, Hawaii/Kekaulike H.S.) added 14 more helpers in the win.  Rivera and Keanu Jacinto (Encinitas, Calif./La Costa Canyon H.S.) each were in on five blocks as Lourdes outblocked the Eagles 8-6 for the match.  Brad Miller (Convoy, Ohio/Crestview H.S.) tallied a team-high 10 digs.
 
Taylor Magorien led Robert Morris (12-13) with 11 kills while Danny Orozco handed out 34 assists.  Jonathan Gomez had a match-high 12 digs for the Eagles.
 
Lourdes (16-5), the tournament's second seed, has matched a school record for victories in a season, and will look to capture the tournament title and an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships on Saturday as the Gray Wolves face top-seeded, and regular season champion, Cardinal Stritch.  First serve is set for noon in Perrysburg.
