Playing at home outdoors for the first time in program history, Lourdes women's lacrosse team fell 18-14 to Siena Heights on Tuesday evening at Ottawa Hills High School.
Faith Fisher (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) opened the scoring with a free position goal for the Gray Wolves 2:57 into the contest before Siena Heights tallied the next five goals. With the Saints leading 9-3, Lourdes answered with three goals in a span of a minute to close to within three before Siena Heights took a 10-6 lead into halftime.
The Saints lead grew to six, 12-6, in the first four minutes of the second half before a goal from
Molly Porterfield (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) and two from
Jessie Frost (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) pulled the Gray Wolves back to within three. Siena Heights again built a six-goal lead, but Lourdes scored three times in the final 1:01 to help bring the final margin to within four.
Fisher and
Katie Cerveny (Erie, Mich./Mason H.S.) led Lourdes with four goals each, with Fisher also adding two assists. Frost and Porterfield had two goals each while
Allison Mazey (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) and
Haley Brown (Bedford, Mich./Bedford H.S.) each added a tally.
Stephannie Gonzalez scored five times and Aliisa Mason added four goals for Siena Heights (7-7, 3-4 WHAC) in the win.
Lourdes outshot Siena Heights 29-27 for the game, including 25-21 on goal.
Lourdes (1-11, 0-7) will remain at home on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves host Lawrence Tech. The opening draw is set for 5 p.m. at Ottawa Hills High School.
