Joelle Rawski's (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) goal with 23 seconds to play on Wednesday evening lifted Lourdes to a 21-20 victory over Concordia (Mich.) in a high-scoring affair at Wildcat Stadium.
"Today was a great win for the program," head coach
Sierra Wagoner said afterwards. "The team played every minute until the very last second of the game. I am very satisfied with our performance. This win gives us some positive momentum going into our final regular season game on Saturday."
Concordia scored the game's first two goals just 1:30 into the contest before Lourdes responded with six of the next seven tallies on the way to building a 6-4 lead after one quarter. The Gray Wolves would not trail the rest of the way, taking an 11-10 lead into halftime following
Sydney Duran's (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) goal with just 24 seconds left in the second period.
Lourdes pushed its lead to as many as four, 17-13, late in the third before three straight goals from the Cardinals pulled the visitors within one early in the fourth. The two sides would trade goals until Concordia notched back-to-back tallies 36 seconds apart, tying the game at 20 prior to Rawski's heroics.
Amelia McCourt (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Bloomfield Hills H.S.) and
Joelle Rawski (Toledo, Ohio/Southview H.S.) each scored six times while
Jordin Rawski added four more goals.
Sarah Przyojski (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) had three tallies while Duran found the back of the cage twice.
Concordia (2-11, 1-7 WHAC) outshot Lourdes 38-37 for the game with
Maddie Wadesisi (Cleveland, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) making 10 saves between the posts.
Duran picked up six ground balls while McCourt won 12 draw controls.
Lourdes (4-7, 2-6) closes out the regular season on Saturday morning, hosting Bethel (Ind.) at Wildcat Stadium. The opening draw is set for 11 a.m. with Senior Day activities taking place prior to the game.
