Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Six matches in five days are on the slate for Lourdes this week as the Gray Wolves take to the road for the first time in 2015. The Gray Wolves travel to Siena Heights on Tuesday for non-conference action before heading to Saint Xavier on Thursday for a Great Lakes Conference match. The week concludes Friday and Saturday with four matches, including three against top-10 teams, at the Moulton Invitational hosted by #1 Grand View.
Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fourth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball,
Greg Reitz has a 49-28 (.636) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. He was named to the MAMVIC East Coach of the Year in 2012 and the Great Lakes Conference Coach of the Year in 2014. Reitz is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 9-0 advantage in the all-time series against Siena Heights dating back to Feb. 14, 2012, including a 4-0 mark in Adrian, Mich. The Gray Wolves are 8-0 against Saint Xavier dating back to Jan. 20, 2012, including a 5-0 record in Chicago, Ill. Lourdes is 1-1 against Grand View in a series dating back to March 3, 2012, but this is the Gray Wolves' first trip to Des Moines, Iowa. Lourdes is 1-0 all-time against Graceland, sweeping the Yellow Jackets on March 3, 2012. The Gray Wolves have never met Hope International and are 0-6 all-time against Saint Ambrose going back to Jan. 17, 2012, the program's initial match in school history.
Wrapping Last Week: The Gray Wolves rallied from two sets down to defeat #10 Robert Morris (Ill.) 23-25, 22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 15-7 on Friday evening in the 2015 season opener.Â
Jo'Lon Clark hit .535 with 24 kills and added 14 digs while
Amaury Miranda handed out 60 assists.Â
Brad Miller tallied a match-high 17 digs while
Frank Craig had seven blocks in the win.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have split a pair of matches to open the year and are coming off a three-set loss at home to Robert Morris (Ill.) on Saturday. Gilius Blinstrubas leads Siena Heights with 27 kills and is hitting .277.
Scouting Saint Xavier: The Cougars opened the season last weekend with four-set victories over Dominican and Benedictine-Lisle. Dan O'Keefe has tallied 29 kills and is hitting .269 to leads Saint Xavier.
Scouting Grand View: The Vikings enter the week having won two straight matches following a four-set triumph at Park last Friday. Pedro Cardoso has tallied a team-leading 58 kills while hitting .322.
Scouting Graceland: The Yellow Jackets have won two straight games after downing Lindenwood-Belleville and Missouri Valley last Saturday. Steven Roschitz has tallied a team-high 65 kills for Graceland.
Scouting Hope International: The Royals have won three straight contests following a five-set victory over Cal-Santa Cruz on Sunday. Dominique Blonski has 81 kills and is hitting .405 on the year to pace Hope International.
Scouting Saint Ambrose: The Fighting Bees have won three straight contests following a four-set win at Quincy on Saturday. Jamie Schnittker has led the Saint Ambrose offense, hitting .309 with 37 kills this year.
Highest Ranking Ever: Lourdes is ranked seventh in the latest NAIA Men's Volleyball poll, the highest ranking ever. The Gray Wolves opened the year eighth in the preseason poll before moving up after week one. Lourdes previous high was ninth in the team's inaugural 2012 season.
Facing Ranked Opponents: Lourdes is 6-25 all-time against teams ranked in the top-10Â Last season the Gray Wolves posted a 2-5 mark against ranked foes, but is already 1-0 in 2015 after the five-set win over Robert Morris (Ill.).
Quite an Opener: Jo'Lon Clark opened the season in impressive fashion, tallying 24 kills, one shy of his career high with just one error. He hit .535 while also adding 14 digs defensively.
Pulling Out a Five-Setter: Lourdes went five sets the entire 2014 season but already went the distance in the season opener in 2015. After posting a 2-2 mark one year ago, the Gray Wolves are off to a 1-0 starter in five sets this year.
Captains Named: Lourdes has announced co-captains for the 2014 season. Serving in that role are seniors
Frank Craig and
Brad Miller, both of whom served in the same role last year.
This and That: Lourdes is now 3-1 all-time in season openers ...
Amaury Miranda,
Sean Labriola, and
Eric Ubior made their collegiate debuts for the Gray Wolves last week ... Lourdes .385 hitting percentage as a team leads the NAIA.
