Two first half goals by Marygrove proved to be too large of a deficit for Lourdes to overcome on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves suffered a 3-1 setback to the Mustangs at the Marygrove Outdoor Athletic Complex in Detroit, Mich.
Â
Marygrove took the lead in the 35
th minute as Andriy Pelekh headed home a goal following a throw-in from Mario Morana. Just 2:32 later, the Mustangs increased the advantage to 2-0 as Morana scored a tally of his own after a cross from Abdoulie Jallow.
Â
Trailing by two at the break, Lourdes cut its deficit in half just 1:11 into the second stanza.Â
Adilson Darosa (Pawtucket, R.I./Shea H.S.) tallied his fifth goal of the season, picking up a loose ball in the box and beating Marygrove goalkeeper Aymann Youssef.Â
Aaron Davis (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) picked up the assist.
Â
Lourdes was unable to find the equalizer though, as Jallow put the Mustangs back in front by two with a goal of his own just over four minutes after the Gray Wolf goal.
Â
Marygrove (6-5-1, 3-1-1 WHAC) outshot Lourdes 18-10 for the afternoon, including a 10-5 advantage on goal.
Â
Mark Darling (Jacksonville, Fla./Mandarin H.S.) made seven stops in goal for the Gray Wolves while Youssef made four stops.
Â
Lourdes (4-5, 2-3) will remain on the road Wednesday afternoon as the Gray Wolves head to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face Concordia (Mich.). Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Cardinal Field.
