Lourdes improved to 18-0 and has lost just one of its last 29 sets over the past month after sweeping Lawrence Tech 25-15, 25-12, 26-24 at Tam-o-Shanter on Wednesday evening.
With the victory, the Gray Wolves are one of just three undefeated teams remaining in NAIA volleyball.
"Offensively we were very sound tonight," head coach
Greg Reitz said after the match, which saw his Gray Wolves hit .390 as a team. "We need to clean up our passing and defense a bit though heading into a big weekend."
The 19
th-ranked Gray Wolves did not commit more than three attack errors in any one set on Wednesday, hit .516 in the middle stanza, and recorded seven service aces.
Runs of 5-1 and 8-1 gave the Gray Wolves the separation they needed from the Blue Devils in the opening set before scoring 11 of the final 12 points in the second set. Lawrence Tech hit .310 without an attack error in the middle set, but Lourdes put down 19 kills of its own. The third set had 13 ties and three lead changes in it. Lourdes trailed 22-21 before rallying to close out the match.
Molly Shonk (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Hartley H.S.) and
Stephanie Richards (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) led the way for Lourdes with 12 kills each, with Richards hitting .400 in the win. Shonk added 13 digs to complete the double-double along with three aces while
Stephanie Ruffing (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty H.S.) also tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs while hitting .400.
Ave Stout (Huntertown, Ind./Bishop Luers H.S.) added eight kills without an error and hit .667 while
Meghan Birr (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores H.S.) handed out 39 assists.
Mary Armstrong led Lawrence Tech (7-19, 4-9 WHAC) with 14 kills while Alisha Stidam added nine digs defensively.
Lourdes (18-0, 13-0) will head to Dearborn, Mich. for a pair of neutral site conference clashes on Saturday afternoon. The Gray Wolves will face 22
nd-ranked Madonna at noon before battling Siena Heights in a 3 p.m. contest at the UMD Fieldhouse.
