For the first time since the opening match in program history, Lourdes rallied from a deficit to earn a 3-2 victory over Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.
"I was proud of our commitment to stay in the game and come from behind," head coach
Barry Spitzer said afterwards. "We stuck to our game play throughout the game."
Indiana Tech (3-9-1, 0-6-1 WHAC) struck first as Richard Doll collected a ball at the top of the 18 and scored into the far left side of the goal at the 21:34 mark of the first half.
Lourdes responded less than eight minutes later as
Aaron Davis (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg H.S.) headed home a corner from
Josh Patta (Wolfsburg, Germany/Hulebacksgymnasiet H.S.) to tie the match at one. Davis again connected on a header from the corner with 2:20 left before halftime, this time from
Jake Kirchoff-Sleet (Tamworth, England/Queen Elizabeth's Mercian H.S.) to make it a 2-1 Gray Wolf advantage heading into the break.
Matt Robinson tied the contest at two 6:08 into the second half, as his shot deflected off of a Gray Wolf and just past Lourdes goalkeeper
Andre White (Montego Bay, Jamaica/Cornwall College).
Kirchoff-Sleet notched his first match-winner as a Gray Wolf with 13:32 remaining, as he dribbled through defenders and scored from six yards out.
White made four saves to earn his second victory of the season in goal for the Gray Wolves while Logan Kelly made seven stops in the loss for the Warriors. Lourdes outshot Indiana Tech 19-11 on the afternoon and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Lourdes (6-5, 4-3) will take to the road on Wednesday as the Gray Wolves head to Aquinas. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Aquinas Athletic Field in Grand Rapids, Mich.
