"Any win you can get is a good win," head coach
Andre Smith said afterwards. "It was ugly at times, not in terms of turnovers, but other miscues and lack of execution. Our guys fought hard in the second half though."
Â
Lourdes trailed by two, 29-27, at the break despite jumping out to an early 13-5 lead. A 9-4 run over the final two minutes by the Wolverines put the guests in top just before break for the first time since the 18:19 mark when Michigan-Dearborn led 3-2.
Â
The Wolverines extended the lead to seven, 38-31, less than three minutes into the second half following back-to-back three-point plays down low after a three-pointer by Xavier Crofford. Lourdes fought back with nine straight points to retake the lead, and never trailed the rest of the game.
Â
A 7-0 spurt capped by a triple from Blackwell increased the Gray Wolf lead to 50-43 midway through the stanza. Michigan-Dearborn again battled back, closing to within two on four occasions in the final seven minutes, but was never able to tie the contest, and the Gray Wolves made four free throws in the final 25.3 seconds to secure the win.
Â
Anthony Swanigan (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike H.S.) added 13 points for the Gray Wolves as Lourdes shot 43.1% from the floor for the night. The Gray Wolves were 17-of-21 (81%) from the free throw line, and committed just nine turnovers while registering 10 steals.Â
Julian Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Horizon H.S.) pulled down nine rebounds.
Â
Crofford led Michigan-Dearborn (4-5, 1-3 WHAC) with 17 points while Marcus Williams added 15 points and nine boards. The Wolverines shot 33.9% from the field on the night.
