Lourdes closed out the month of November on Friday evening, dropping a 78-67 non-conference contest to Ohio Valley at the Snyder Activity Center in Vienna, W. Va.
Â
Andrea Hodge (Westerville, Ohio/Central H.S.) led Lourdes with 18 points and eight rebounds while
Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) and
Niki Meyer (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center H.S.) each scored in double figures. Fidler finished with 14 points while Meyer tallied 13 for the Gray Wolves.
Â
The Gray Wolves shot 47.7% from the floor on the evening, and made 5-of-11 three-point attempts, but could not overcome 23 turnovers that led to 26 Ohio Valley points. The Fighting Scots shot 55.6% from the floor on the night, including 60.7% in the final 20 minutes.
Â
"Ohio Valley had a lot of good athletes," head coach
Karen McConnell said after the game. "We couldn't handle their pressure and gave up a lot of easy looks inside."
Â
The Fighting Scots jumped out to an early 14-6 lead in the opening quarter, but Lourdes battled back to tie the game at 18 following a jumper by Fidler with just over seven minutes remaining before halftime. A 14-5 run by Ohio Valley followed, and the Fighting Scots took a 35-26 advantage into the locker room.
Â
The lead grew to 17 for the hosts after scoring the first eight points of the third period, and the Gray Wolves were never able to pull closer than nine the rest of the way.
Â
"We would make a run and get within nine or 11, but then we would give up something easy," McConnell added.
Â
Lindsey Motycka (Convoy, Ohio/Crestview H.S.) tallied nine points while
Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.) added eight points and eight boards for the Gray Wolves.
Â
Chardy Pitts led Ohio Valley (1-3) with 23 points, making 10-of-11 shots from the floor, while also grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Faith Miller added 12 points and six assists while Hanna Mitchell and Imani Hall each added 11 points for the Fighting Scots.
Â
Lourdes (3-6) will return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves head to Fort Wayne, Ind. to battle Indiana Tech. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Schaefer Center Gymnasium.
