Lourdes Women Fall at Indiana Tech in WHAC Play

Indiana Tech made 15 three-point field goals on Wednesday evening and shot 50% from the floor overall to defeat Lourdes 94-72 at the Schaefer Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Gray Wolves made 10-of-16 (62.5%) from three-point range themselves and had four players finish in double figures, but Lourdes was unable to overcome a 25-point halftime deficit.

"We were able to put points on the board, shot the ball well, and took care of the basketball committing just nine turnovers," head coach Karen McConnell said afterwards.  "However, They shot really well, especially from outside."

Indiana Tech (6-3, 3-1 WHAC) scored 10 of the game's first 12 points and led from start to finish.  The Warriors finished the opening period on a 12-4 run to open up a 27-13 lead.  The hosts connected at a 57.1% clip in the first half, and made 10-of-15 from long range.  A 16-2 run in the second quarter increased the lead to 28 before Indiana Tech took a 54-29 lead into the locker room.

"We have to be ready to play when the game starts," McConnell added.  "When things don't go our way and the other team is making lots of shots, we can't put our heads down and want to quit."

Lourdes closed the third quarter on a 12-2 run to pull within 18 after three as Molea Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison H.S.) and Jesse Fidler (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold H.S.) each tallied five points in the run.

The Gray Wolves came within 15, 73-58, with just under eight minutes to play, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way.  A 14-5 run by the Warriors pushed the lead back to 24, handing Lourdes its second straight loss.

Fidler led Lourdes with 15 points, making 6-of-10 from the floor, while Thompson added 14 points off of the bench.  Mariah DuPree (Ottawa Lake, Mich./Whiteford H.S.) made four triples on her way to 12 points while Niki Meyer (Liberty Center, Ohio/Liberty Center H.S.) chipped in 10 points.  Andrea Hodge (Westerville, Ohio/Central H.S.) tallied nine points while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds.

Haley Cook went 6-for-9 from three-point range on her way to a game-high 26 points for Indiana Tech.  She also handed out seven assists without committing a turnover.  Baylee Rinehart added 17 points for the Warriors.

Lourdes (3-7, 1-4) will return home on Saturday afternoon to host first place Lawrence Tech.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Tam-o-Shanter.
