Lourdes Opens Season with Three Road Tilts

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: Lourdes University opens its second season of intercollegiate lacrosse this weekend with three games.  The Gray Wolves begin the year with a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday night at Lawrence Tech before heading to Kentucky this weekend for games at Asbury on Saturday and Georgetown (Ky.) on Sunday.

Head Coach Paul Sieben: In his second season on the Lourdes bench, Paul Sieben has a 1-15 (.063) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves and as a collegiate head coach.  He is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lawrence Tech leads the all-time series with Lourdes 2-0 dating back to March 25, 2014.  The Blue Devils scored an 18-9 victory in the first meeting before downing the Gray Wolves 18-12 on April 4, 2014.  Lourdes has never met Asbury or Georgetown (Ky.) in women's lacrosse.

Wrapping Up 2014: Lourdes finished 2014 with a 1-15 overall record and a 0-10 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, finishing in sixth place in the league standings.  Faith Fisher led the Gray Wolves with 40 goals and 44 points while Katie Cerveny added 26 goals.  Amanda Kaczmarek saw the majority of the work in goal, sporting an 18.98 goals against average.

Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils opened the season with a 17-12 victory over ninth-ranked Siena Heights on Saturday afternoon.  Alyssa Shaver scored six times while Kadijah Kalo added five tallies to lead Lawrence Tech.  Marie Klonowski made eight saves on 20 shots in goal.

Scouting Asbury: The Eagles scored a 17-1 victory over Truett-McConnell on Feb. 13 in the first game in program history.  Taylor Papadakis tallied five goals while Savannah Neese and Melinda Martinez each added four goals for Asbury.  Claire Perreault made four saves between the posts for the Eagles.  Asbury is slated to host Robert Morris-Springfield on Friday before entertaining Lourdes.

Scouting Georgetown (Ky.): The Tigers opened the year on Feb. 14 with a 22-0 win versus Truett-McConnell.  Merrisa Heraldson scored six times while Lauren Bruun-Bryant added four tallies for Georgetown.  Doreen Brabble made just one save in the shutout win.  The Tigers travel to Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday and host Robert Morris-Springfield on Saturday before entertaining Lourdes.

Lourdes in Openers: Lourdes is 0-1 all-time in season-opening games.  In 2014 the Gray Wolves fell 19-1 at Baldwin Wallace in the program's inaugural contest.  The Gray Wolves also dropped their Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener last season 22-3 against Indiana Tech.

Award Winner Returns: Faith Fisher returns for her sophomore season at Lourdes after earning Honorable Mention All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference honors as well as NWLL Honorable Mention All-American accolades.  Fisher scored a team-high 40 goals and added four assists for the Gray Wolves.

Lots of New Faces: The Gray Wolves have eight freshmen on the roster this year to join 10 returnees in the program's second season.  Kelsey Schiel also transferred to Lourdes from the University of Toledo and has four years of eligibility remaining.

Captains Named: Lourdes will have tri-captains this season.  Shelby Linenkugel will serve as a captain for the second consecutive season while Jessie Frost and Katie Cerveny will also serve in a leadership role this year.

This and That: Lourdes scored a season-high 14 goals against Siena Heights last season ...the Gray Wolves tallied a season-best 32 shot attempts versus Franciscan ... Katie Cerveny (26 goals) and Jessie Frost (15 goals) join Faith Fisher (40 goals) as double figure goals scorers returning. Ky.
