Lourdes Hosts Siena Heights in Tuesday Night Volleyball

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Volleyball: Lourdes, ranked ninth in the nation in the latest NAIA men's volleyball poll, brings a three-match winning streak to Tam-o-Shanter this week as the Gray Wolves open a five-match homestand.  Lourdes will entertain Siena Heights on Tuesday evening in Great Lakes Conference play in the team's lone contest of the week.

Head Coach Greg Reitz: In his fourth season both on the Lourdes bench, and overall coaching men's volleyball, Greg Reitz has a 54-32 (.628) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  He was named to the MAMVIC East Coach of the Year in 2012 and the Great Lakes Conference Coach of the Year in 2014.  Reitz is the only head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 10-0 advantage all-time against Siena Heights in a series that dates back to Feb. 14, 2012.  Last season the Gray Wolves won all three matches in the season series, posting a pair of 3-0 sweeps at home before winning 3-1 in Adrian, Mich.  Earlier this season on Jan. 27, Lourdes earned a 25-17, 25-18, 25-23 win over the Saints in a non-conference tilt held in Adrian.  Lourdes is 5-0 all-time against Siena Heights in matches played at Tam-o-Shanter.

Wrapping Last Week: Lourdes snapped a four-match losing skid on Tuesday evening with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-12 victory at home against Calumet College of Saint Joseph.  The Gray Wolves hit .390 in the match behind 10 kills from Eric Ubior and seven kills from Sean Labriola.  Lourdes held Calumet to -.031 hitting for the night.  On Thursday, Lourdes hit .565 for the match with just five errors in a 25-16, 25-19, 25-9 sweep at Trinity International.  Jo'Lon Clark and Frank Craig each tallied 11 kills in the win.  The Gray Wolves completed their third sweep of the week on Friday night with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 triumph at Cardinal Stritch.  Lourdes hit .429 for the match with Craig tallying 12 kills and an .800 hitting percentage.

Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have won two of their last three matches following a 3-0 sweep at Calumet College of Saint Joseph, but have been idle since Jan. 31.  Gilius Blinstrubas leads the Saints with 62 kills while Arthur Mattje Gwoszdz has handed out 171 assists.  Tyler Hubbard-Neil has registered a team-best 11 service aces while Zak Krug leads the team defensively with 52 digs.  Lance Blough is the team's top blocker with 13 rejections through the first six matches of the year.

Still in the Polls: Lourdes moved up to eighth in the latest NAIA Men's Volleyball poll (week four), after the Gray Wolves were ranked ninth last week.  The Gray Wolves opened the year eighth in the preseason poll before moving up to seventh after week one, which marked an all-time high.  Lourdes previous high was ninth in the team's inaugural 2012 season.

Quite the Hitting Performances: In three matches last week, Lourdes hit .453 as a team, committing just 23 attack errors in 223 swings.  The Gray Wolves registered 124 kills, an average of 13.78 per set, led by Frank Craig's 26-kill performance.  Craig hit .622, one of five Lourdes hitters to post a mark over .400 with a minimum of 15 attempts.

Top Offense in the Nation: Last week's stellar offensive display has pushed Lourdes to the top of the national rankings.  The Gray Wolves are hitting .296 as a team this season, a mark that is best among all NAIA schools.  Lourdes is also handing out 12.30 assists per set, a mark that also ranks first nationally.  As a team Lourdes is tallying 13.11 kills per set, which ranks third in the country while the Gray Wolves are fifth in the NAIA registering 1.41 service aces per set.

Solid on Serve Receive: Over the course of 37 sets thus far this season, Lourdes has surrendered just 29 service aces to the opposition.  This past week, the Gray Wolves allowed just three aces over the course of the three matches, an average of 0.33 per set.

Freshman Steps Up: Eric Ubior has a solid week on the outside for the Gray Wolves, tallying 21 kills while committing just three miscues.  In 35 total swings, Ubior hit .514, including a .562 performance with 10 kills in the victory over Calumet.

Getting Defensive: Brad Miller averaged 3.00 digs per set last week, tallying a team-leading 27 digs total.  The senior had a pair of double figure dig contests last week, recording a match-high 12 against Calumet before adding 10 more in the win over Cardinal Stritch.

Four Have Yet to Miss a Set: Through the first 10 matches this season, only four players have appeared in all 37 sets for the Gray Wolves.  Sean Labriola and Frank Craig have appeared in every set in the middle while defensively Brad Miller and CJ Rilveria have seen action in each stanza.

Home Sweet Home: Lourdes begins its five-match homestand with Siena Heights on Tuesday.  The Gray Wolves are already 2-0 at Tam-o-Shanter this season and 13-7 all-time at their home facility.  Lourdes enters the week on a four-match home winning streak, with the last loss at Tam-o-Shanter coming Feb. 1, 2014 to ninth-ranked Cardinal Stritch in five sets.

Captains Named: Lourdes has announced co-captains for the 2014 season.  Serving in that role are seniors Frank Craig and Brad Miller, both of whom served in the same role last year.

This and That: Lourdes ranks fifth in the nation in digs per set (11.08) ... Jo'Lon Clark is eighth nationally in hitting percentage (.380), ninth in kills per set (3.72), and 10th in aces (0.39) ... Chris Kampshoff made his collegiate debut against Calumet ...
